Tuft Blanket

This rectangular blanket consists of four panels, assembled on the long sides. The centerpiece is white and framed with a 16 cm wide red margin. The technique is plain weave, relatively loosely woven, with a tuft-forming second warp. The tuft can be seen on both sides, the thread alternating back and forth; it is three centimeters long and cut open. (Ursula Brandl-Straka 2009:76)

Schadenberg writes in his collector's register: "Large tuft blanket made of cotton, a special production from northern Ilocos, from the village Panay in particular; these blankets rarely reach Manila, since the price is way too high compared to European import ware."(1)
