Barkcloth Blanket

For this blanket, four layers of barkcloth panels, 40 cm wide each, were placed on top of each other and assembled with uniform quilting. At several spots are small rectangular barkcloth patches. The edges of the long sides of the blanket are bordered with whipstitch. Schadenberg remarked that this is "a particularly beautiful specimen" (1) from the Valle Dupagan. In his 1887 article he identifies the inhabitants of this area as "Guinanen;" most likely he is talking about the Bontok.(Ursula Brandl-Straka 2009: 75)

(1)German original: "ein selten schones Exemplar"(Schadenberg, register, collector file, MVW archives).
