Trap (Gubu / Apayo)

Inventory number SA 34573
Fish trap for catching fish in the rice fields, especially eels. The funnel-shaped part was woven with the stem of the bi-al plant, a climbing plant that grows on the steep, bushy slopes around the rice terraces. This fish trap is placed in the mud of the rice terraces. The trap is designed in such a way that the fish get through the funnel-shaped mouth of the trap and can no longer get out. Gubu are typically used from post-harvest until the next growing season. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio.
