Head covering (Suklong)

Inventory number: 042790
Woven headgear with colored materials. Personal jewelry belonging to a man, which was also used to store personal items such as tobacco. It is worn further back on the head and secured with a band over the forehead. Various other models can be found in the Bontoc-Kankanaey area. Some elders in Bontoc and nearby villages still wear the suklong for celebrations or special occasions. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio.
