Shield

Circular; very slightly convex. Surface blackened except for design which is made by cutting away the surface and leaving the natural wood: centre design is eight rays, each terminating in a double curve and a drop; beyond this is a band of rays; and near the edge is a narrow band of triangles and dots resulting from two interlocking curves.
