I-ne, Textile Strip

Brownish-black with natural warp ikated designs. Narrow maroon band at side selvages. Warp ends: cut. This specimen is catalogued as a "girdle" but resembles the "ines" in the From card catalogue notes by Laura Watson Benedict(1861–1932) and Lisa Whitall (1926-2019) collection.
"I-ne" is a word for a hemp textile "Inabul". It is used for central portion of a woman's tubular skirt or "mother" piece. (From card catalogue notes by Laura Watson Benedict(1861–1932) and Lisa Whitall (1926-2019), 1905)
