Set of fifty-one playing-cards (fifty-second - knave of hearts - missing) made of cardboard. 19thC
Curators comments:
Knave of hearts already missing when acquired by British Museum for Christy Collection. Ex-Belcher Collection; pack obtained by Captain Edward Belcher from one of the "pirates of Illanoon" destroyed by him off Gilolo (Halmahera) in 1844. "Philippines" on Slip/Register; Gilolo/Halmahera is part of Moluccas, now Indonesia.
