Necklace (Ifugao)

Three white fruit kernels (Job's tears, coix lacrymae Jobi) alternate with three small chains of brown fruit kernels; these consist of 8 to 12 cores each, which are pulled up on thread and knotted together. The whole chain has a total of 22 white and 22 brown parts, which together make a length of 80cm. Ifugao women wear these chains threefold or fourfold around their necks or around their heads several times to tie up their long hair (Vanoverbergh 1922: 210).
