Shield made of light wood cut from one piece. On the outside convex to the shape, the upper part and the lower end have five cut-out pins. On the back, a handle is cut out. The shield is "sewn" at the upper and lower ends with braided rattan. On the front of the shield there are several notches and jacks that can be traces of use in a defense situation.

Heinrich Rudolph Wahlen, born 1873 in Germany, died 1970, consul and entrepreneur, owned several of the western islands in the Bismarck Archipelago in the early 20th century. He had a large mansion built on Luf Island, Hermit Group, Western Islands. He was married to Thyra and they were the parents of Viola Wahlen.
