Manila – A Group of Filipinos in the Suburbs is an early photograph from the Philippines. The view pay attention to houses and streets where the local people lived. Philippines photographs are generally difficult to identify due to the lack of scholarship. There were a few studios operating in the Philippines including Felix Laureano, Albert Honnis, R Mayer, Francisco van Camp and Francisco Pertierra. This photograph likely originated from one of these studios. The print reveals similarities in subject matter with photographs from other parts of the Southeast Asian region, revealing a certain consistency in the European gaze on the region.
