Fishpond in Malabon

Fishpond in Malabon is infused with warm tropical light, emphasising the radiance of an approaching sunset. One of the few signs of human presence is the hut on the left, a structure which harks back to simpler, pre-industrial times. Fernando Cueto Amorsolo was a prolific painter in the early 20th century who was known for such idyllic rural scenes. His works were so commercially successful that he kept a portfolio for prospective buyers to choose from, making paintings to order. Demand for his paintings came mainly from expatriates living in the Philippines who ranged from American civil workers to military men and tourists.
