Mantle (Ikat)

Mantle woven in abaca fibre patterned in the warp with an asymmetrical series of stripes in russet, cream, pale yellow and grey enclosing three main design stripes containing humanoid and crocodile figures, and several narrow ikat stripes. The ikat areas are the cream natural colour of the abaca against a dull brownish grey. At one end the ikat designs are discontinued towards the end of the cloth where it has been cut. At the other end the warp ends have been loosely tied together at the end of an inch or so of fringing. T'boli people. Abaca. 65 x 194.
