Shroud; Textile

Burial shroud woven in natural cream, and dyed brown and black plant fibre. The textile has been sewn together along the selvedges of 4 narrower strips. Each of the strips is decorated with a central cream stripe, framed by a narrower brown, and a black stripe. These create a tabby-woven warp-faced panel with twill-woven borders at each end. Subtly different shaded bands are visible in the cream stripes within the panel. These are due to the use of cream or brown weft. In the borders the twill pattern is also more distinctive in the cream stripe. It alternates between 3 wider bands with a larger number of finer zigzags, and 3 bands containing one larger zigzag on a cream ground. Condition: 1: good | Ifugao
