Originally brought to England by Lieutenant Hinds of HMS "Challenger", acquired from the "Moro Indians, Zamboanga, Mindanao, Philippine Isl." Original label with register number lost; re-registered as Q1972As.2848 in 1972; identified as Christy 9867 in 1996. (AMD,4/1996). Compare with As1952,08.01 See AOA Christy Correspondence Letter Bryce M Wright, FRGS, FRHistS, 90 Great Russell St/A W Franks, 20 June 1876 - 'I have bought a quantity of specimens from the "Challenger" and have some very rare Implements. Amongst them is a very fine (and I have been informed it is the only specimen in England) Coat of Mail made of Buffalo Horn & Brass Rings by the Moro Indians of Mindanao Phillippines...' Previous owner/ex-collection: Bryce McMurdo Wright Sr. Dealer of minerals, natural history and ethnographic artefacts (1814-1874). Wright began in business in about 1842 selling minerals and fossils. He later owned a shop on Great Russell Street, London and began dealing ethnographic material and archaeology in the 1860s, and sold to the British Museum.
His son, also named Bryce McMurdo Wright (1850-1895) was an English mineralogist and conchologist who worked of the family business. He was present on voyages of the 'Sunbeam', between 1876 and 1883.
