SINGKIL BALNATUNG - Blaan Anklet

Annotated text (Blaan Kastulen June, 2022)

SINGKIL BALNATUNG
Worn only by Blaan women. The anklet is especially used when dancing.  Made of brass which was introduced by the Maguindanon. SINGKIL is the generic for anklet. But depending on the design, some adjectival phrases are  appended to the root name - hence Singkil Balnatung is from the design of the balnatung which is shaped like a mongo seed. Other singkil types are similarly named according to the motif. (See similar variation of Balnatung in a wristlet  here.)
