Figure (Bul-ul)

Inventory number SA 37050
Ifugao sometimes put a men's waistcoat (wanoh) on their bul-ul figures and shape the head area so that the haircut is visible. The bul-ul figure stands on a carved base shaped like the round mortar of the Ifugao. The Bul-ul are also known as rice guards or rice gods, because they once ensured a good harvest, protected the rice granaries from pests and protected the rice stocks from being destroyed by all kinds of calamities.
