Figure (Bul-ul)

Inventory number SA 36663 a + b
A pair of bul-ul wooden figures, consisting of a man and a woman. The woman stands on a pedestal shaped like an Ifugao rice mortar. Possible traces of a blood patina from sacrificial rituals. After the harvest, Bul-ul figures were often placed with wooden pigs as guards in front of the doors of rice granaries. Text: Prof. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio.
