Necklace (Boaya)

Inventory number SA 35755
Necklace made of boar tusks and runo reeds. Men wear this necklace at celebrations and rituals, such as B. the begnas ritual for growing rice together with the tangkil (this collection). Visible recessed patterns on the runo reeds. Rattan wickerwork was designed on each of the tusks. It is worn by priests and fighters during rituals. Older versions of this necklace consist of crocodile teeth, which is why this jewelry is named after the local name for crocodile. Such items are now considered heirloom. Traditional materials for the manufacture of this jewelry element are no longer available. Today, however, this jewelry is sometimes recreated and worn at cultural festivals. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E.
