Knife (Hinalong)

Inventory number SA 35750
Smaller version of the Ifugao hinalong bolo knife with a heot sheath. The sheath is made of wood with rattan wickerwork. Men usually owned such a knife as it is a very useful cutting device for almost anything. In the past, it was often personally marked by the owners by adding a mark or pattern to it. Today the owner's name is often etched into it. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio
