Container (Punamhan)

Inventory number SA 34580
Wooden ritual box with lid, which was used by the Ifugao in rituals to bring about a good yield of travel. It contains scraps of pakhuy (unpeeled rice), momah (betel nut palm, areca catechu), eggs and possibly dried tree bark. The contents of the box are remnants of rituals in which the object was used. After each ritual performed, ingredients were left in the box. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio
