Head covering (Kattagang)

Inventory number 042789
Woven headgear of the Pasil, Kalinga with dyed materials. The design and color of this object is characteristic of the Kalinga communities. Personal jewelry belonging to a man, which was also used to store personal items such as tobacco. It was worn farther back on the head and secured with a tape over the forehead. This was especially useful when men went to the neighboring villages or when they attended celebrations. Similar models can be found in the villages of the Kalinga. Some older people still wear this jewelry at celebrations or certain occasions. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio.
