Spear (Panilipo / Falfeg)

Inventory number: 029757
Spear with a metal tip with a barb and shaped like a fish's tail. An iron ring and rattan ring wicker were used to reinforce the shaft where the round tongue is secured. The lower part was burned by incendiary bombs that hit the Linden Museum during World War II. Steel-tipped spear with a barb and shaped like a fish's tail. The spear head was attached to the wooden shaft. A rattan ring wicker was used to reinforce the shaft where the square tongue will be secured. A cone-shaped iron cap was placed on the underside of the shaft to protect the spear when it was used as a stick by men who followed tracks. Possibly a falfeg from Bontoc. Text: Prof. Dr. Leah E. Abayao, Cordillera Studies Center, UP Baguio.
