Sinamay (Abaca), 1800s

Sinamay - Bicolano. A type of abaca cloth with multiple definition that have evolved through time.It currently refers to a coarse, open-weave abaca cloth made into placemats, ribbons and other decorative material. ( Castro, 79)

Cloth woven of abaca and cotton, and also past tense of samay, a verb referring to the act of weaving fibers for cloth ( Lisboa, 332) (Castro, 79)
