Ivory Sculpture Fragments

Four fragments that were part of a sculptural group of San Miguel Archangel crushing the devil. Specifically, it is one of the arms of the Saint (1), two fragments of the skirt (2 and 4), a part of the knot of the band (3). All of them present identical remains of polychrome decoration based on small concentric circles. These are pieces of great weight.

The different fragments can be cataloged as colonial, Hispanic-Filipino ivories. A complete piece of this style is preserved in a private Mexican collection (Estella Marco, M. M., Ivoires from The Far Eastern Provinces of Spain and Portugal, Monterrey, 1997, Num. 39, pp. 96-99).
