Ivory Sculpture Madonna and Child

Wooden female figure standing with the Child Jesus, now disappeared, in her arms. The head, made of ivory, has glass eyes while the hair, eyelashes, eyebrows and lips are polychrome. The clothing consists of a cloak made of greenish-blue silk satin, adorned by metallic sheets applied vertically across the entire cloak, and a border composed of a metallic cord formed by a sinuous line with petals composed of a sheet. metallic. The application is made with white cotton threads. The lining is ecru cotton taffeta. Dress made of ivory silk satin, decorated with applications of double metallic sheets, vertically, that adorn only the front of the dress, and floral decoration in the lower part, composed of buds made of metallic foil forming a checkerboard, and symmetrical V-shaped leaves made of cordoncillo. Gauze veil decorated with woven plant motifs, in white cotton thread. Pairs with part CE08470.


Reasoned Classification The head follows the typical Spanish-Filipino model of the 19th century, as does the clothing, made in nipis and with metallic embroideries in relief very characteristic of the Philippine productions of the time. The figure's clothing was completed with a wig that has not been preserved.
